5 Things to do When There’s no Power

Load shedding has struck yet again and this time around you completely unprepared for it. You totally forgot to charge your phone, the laptop is at 10% and you bored outta your mind. You think to yourself that this is what it must have been like in the dark ages or that you’re being punished for some unknown reason.

You look out the window and contemplate what you’re doing with your life because that’s the only thing to do… right?

WRONG!

Here are a few things that you can do when there is no power and you waiting for the electricity to return:

  1. Go to sleep

Enjoy the peace and quiet that load shedding brings by treating yourself to some good old sleep. You’ll be amazed at what a couple hours of sleep will do. Your body will thank you later.

  1. Read a book

Take this time to catch up on some reading. That book you bought 6 months ago is still on the shelf waiting to be read.

  1. Play board games

Nothing passes the time like playing board games. If you don’t have any board games then play a game of solitaire with actual cards. You might not want to stop even when the electricity comes back on.

  1. Sing every song you know

Move the furniture aside to create a stage. Stack your teddies and cushions so that you have an audience and then unleash your inner Beyoncé. This is the perfect time to headline your own acapella concert. What’s more fun than that?

  1. Binge eat everything in your fridge

Who knows when the power will come back? Whilst you wait, why not indulge yourself in that tub of ice cream before it melts. If there’s anything that can turn a gloomy situation around – it’s food.
