The Astrum ST150 Bluetooth speaker – clear sound, powerful bass

Astrum Speaker

These days, Bluetooth speakers can be found everywhere and take on any shape and size. We recently got our hands on the Astrum ST150 portable Bluetooth speaker. Here is what we had to say about it.

What does the Bluetooth speaker have?

The charging time can take up to two and a half hours and when fully charged it can play up to four hours. This speaker has a 10-meter range and it also has a built-in microphone so that you can do hands-free calls. It’s dimensions are 124 x 47 x 20 mm (L x W x H) and it weighs 115g. The speaker has a frequency of 180Hz – 18KHz. It comes with its own charging cable and portable strap.

How much does it cost?

You can order the speaker online from the Astrum website or from other online shopping stores such as Price Check (R499.00), PPS Africa (R399.00) or Bid or Buy (R360.00). So depending on where you get it from, the price will likely be different.

What we liked:
Portability and Usability

The first thing that I noticed about the speaker is how slim and light it was. This made it perfect to carry around with you and to slip it into your pocket when you’re on the go. When it comes to using the device it is also very simple as all you need to do is go into your phone’s Bluetooth settings and connect it from there. It can connect with any Bluetooth enabled device, which means you can use it across devices.

Sound Quality

Earlier we spoke about the speaker having a frequency of 180Hz – 18KHz. If you don’t know what this means, the first number represents the bass output which means how low a speaker can play. While the second number represents the highest treble or frequency.

Generally, speakers that reach 50Hz or lower (with regards to the treble) are considered good speakers. The bass frequency in this speaker is 180Hz, meaning that they put a lot of focus on upping the bass.

At first, I was worried that this might mean that the bass would be overpowering when compared to the higher frequencies, but this was not the case. When listening to the speakers themselves the quality of the bass was very good, without it being overwhelming and cracking at high volumes. The voices and the instruments also sounded natural and the overall sound was very clear.

What we would have liked:

I don’t have any negative remarks when it came to using the speaker and listening to the sound. The only thing that I would have liked to have seen was a longer battery life, other than that I was happy with using it.

Overall the sound quality of the speaker was very good. The sound was clear and the bass was powerful without it being overwhelming.
