Dressing how you want, not how society tells you

Fashion magazines and websites always tell us that if you want to be fashionable, you have to wear certain clothes. But following fashion trends will only fill your cupboard with cheap clothing and leave your wallet empty. Rather than trying to follow trends as they come along, it’s better to actually develop your own style. So here are a couple of ways that you can do that.

Don’t follow the trends

Fashion comes and goes, in a month crop tops will be in and the next month they’ll be out. But if you always try and follow fashion trends, you’ll find that you are wasting money on items that won’t even be fashionable in the next couple of weeks. The trick here is to not follow the trends, sure there might be one or two trends that come along that speak to your style. But the most important thing is to develop your own style and fashion sense.

Try out different styles

Developing your own style isn’t the easiest thing to do. It can take time as you try out different outfits. The trick here is to do some research online of your best-dressed bloggers or celebs and find what you like about what they wear. Then when you’re out doing your shopping, pick certain staple items that you have chosen from your research. This way you can slowly develop your own sense of style over time and not when the next trend comes along.

Dress for yourself and not for others

Accept that not everyone will like the way you dress, that is just a fact of life. If you are following fashion just so you can be accepted by some “friends,” then you probably won’t be happy about it. Let go of this stress and let go of the fact that not everyone will like your my little pony denim jacket. Once you free yourself of these worries, the happier you’ll be about yourself and your style.

Be confident about it

Once you’ve accepted the fact that you are dressing the way you want, the more confident you’ll feel about it. If there is a certain fashion rule that you don’t like, then break it. If you want to mix certain patterns, do it. There is no reason why you shouldn’t be confident with the way that you dress, even if it breaks a few fashion rules. Make sure that you project that confidence to show how much you don’t care what others think of it.

It all comes down to the way you feel about how you are dressing. If you feel that you are happy with the way you dress then that’s all that really matters.
