Surviving your first music festival – tips and tricks

Music festivals are a great place to have a good time and to meet new people. But they can also be overwhelming, especially if you’ve never been to one before. To help all you first timers get ready for the music festival season, here are some tips so that you can be prepared for the insanity.

Take the essentials

You don’t want to go to a music festival and learn on arrival that you’re missing a tent. It’s not a great way to start things off. So before you leave the house make sure that you make a list of everything that you’ll need. Some of the essentials are a tent, sleeping bag, clothes, backpack, sunscreen, food, water, money, walking shoes, wet wipes, flashlight, raincoat, a watch and a map. If you have these then you’re all set to have a good time.

Pack for the weather

You never know what the weather will be like at most music festivals. It can be scorching hot during the day and freezing cold at night. This is why it’s important that you pack clothes for every weather scenario. This way you won’t get caught off guard if it starts to rain all of a sudden since you packed your raincoat and wellingtons.

Don’t overdo it

Most of these music festivals are weekend-long events. So you don’t want to drink too much on the first night just so you’re hungover the next day. We’re not saying that you shouldn’t have a good time, it’s just if you pace yourself you can enjoy a whole weekend worth of music and good times.

Go with your friends

Rather than going by yourself, it’s always a good idea to wrangle some friends to go with you. However, since music festivals are huge places with lots of people, it can be easy to lose your friends. This is why you should choose a designated spot to meet at if you get separated. Or go through the lineup before you leave camp so that you know what bands to meet at if you lose each other.

Drink lots of water

When you’re dancing to your favourite band or playing drinking games it can be easy to forget to keep yourself hydrated. But you don’t want to feel like crap just because you haven’t been drinking enough water. So make sure to pack your own water bottle and to drink regularly throughout the day. Most music festivals have water stations where you can refill your water bottle during the day.

Some of the most important things to keep in mind at a music festival are to take care of yourself and to have a good time. Go there with an open mind and be prepared for where the fun times will take you.
