DIY skin and hair products


Taking proper care of your hair and skin can take up a lot of time, and it doesn’t help that products are expensive. Instead of blowing all your hard earned cash on these products, you can make your own from ingredients in your home. So why not get started with these recipes for an inexpensive way of taking care of your hair and skin?

Red wine face mask

This mask is great if you want your skin to be moisturized, exfoliated and glowing. You’ll need 2 tablespoons of full-fat sour cream, 2 tablespoons of raw honey and 1 tablespoon of red wine. Mix these ingredients together and then spread them on your face. Leave it on for fifteen minutes and then rinse.

Honey and sugar body polish

The brown sugar and greek yogurt in this recipe both contain alpha hydroxy acids, which dissolve dead skin. The honey and olive oil also helps to lock in moisture. For this mixture, you’ll need 1 cup brown sugar, ⅓ cup olive oil, ½ cup Greek yogurt and 2 tablespoons of honey. Mix these all together, to apply it rub the paste on your clean and damp skin for a minute and then rinse.

Strawberry and lemon facial scrub

In this mix, the lemon and strawberry both contain vitamin C, which helps to boost your skin’s radiance. The brown sugar also helps to smooth away the dry skin. You’ll need 4 mashed ripe strawberries, 3 tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil, ½ cup brown sugar and juice of ½ lemon. To apply, mix these together and use it twice a week on damp skin.

Cocoa powder dry shampoo

Dry shampoo helps to absorb the oily parts of your hair and leaves it looking clean. For this recipe, you’ll need 2 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with 2 Tablespoons cocoa powder as well as 5 drops of essential oil. Put the drops of essential oil into the cocoa powder mixture and mix with a spoon. To apply it, comb the powder through your hair and style as usual. Store the mix in a small jar or old powder container.

Coconut and honey deep conditioner

This hair mask will help to nourish and repair your hair. You’ll need 3 tablespoons coconut oil (for short hair use 2 tablespoons) and 1 tablespoon of honey. Apply it to clean and damp hair from the roots to the ends. If you have fine hair, apply it from ear-level down. Leave it in for 30 minutes and then rinse. You can use this once a week or whenever your hair feels dry.

Honey-softening hair treatment

With this recipe the only ingredient you’ll need is honey! Massage ½ cup of honey into dry hair, if you have shorter hair use less honey. Put a shower cap on your hair or wrap your hair in a plastic bag. Leave it in for 20 minutes then shampoo and condition as usual.

You can make any hair and facial treatments from ingredients found in your own home. So instead of going out and spending all your money on expensive products, you can make your own treatments.
