How to stay in shape while studying at varsity.

It can be liberating to go to university. You’re no longer living at home with your parents and you now have the freedom to do what you want when you want. However, this means you are now in charge of taking care of yourself. This can be challenging when all you want to do is binge-watch a series on Netflix in your free time. So here are a couple of ways that you can stay healthy while at varsity.

Plan your meals

Going grocery shopping ahead of time and planning out your meals will be a great help when you’re cramming for exams or essays. Rather than spending your Sundays in front of your laptop, go out and do your grocery shopping. Then pre-cook a bunch of meals and put them in the freezer. This way you won’t need to rely on takeaway meals during the week.

Exercise regularly

It can be difficult to motivate yourself to go out on a run when you’re in university. However, exercising regularly is the best way that you can stay in shape. To make it easier on yourself get some friends to join you and bring along some of your favourite songs to jam to on the treadmill. You can get started by doing 15-30 minutes of exercise three times a week.

Stock up on healthy snacks

When crunch time comes and you’re freaking out about your studies it can be easy to binge eat chips, ice cream and chocolate. Instead of eating all these unhealthy foods you can swap them out for healthier options. Pack snack bags filled with apple slices, carrots, granola bars and trail mixes. This way you’ll be less likely to put on some extra weight when it’s time to focus on your studies.

Cut down on the drinking

University is the place where you’ll have some of the best parties of your life, but with drinking also comes the chance of putting on weight. Did you know that each beer you drink has about 154 calories in it? When you add it all up after a night of drinking you’ll realise just how much weight you’ll be putting on. We’re not saying give up drinking altogether, just to be aware of what you’re putting into your body.

It’s not always easy to motivate yourself to stay in shape, but if you plan ahead and make it fun for yourself it can be done.
